Beneficial Reuse

A long-time advocate of recycling and sustainability, our company mantra is “Reduce, Remove, Reuse.” Fittingly, Merichem® has been a leader in beneficial reuse solutions for spent caustic chemicals in refineries, olefin plants and NGL processing.

What Is It?

The Environmental Protection Agency defines “Beneficial Reuse” as reusing a material in a manner that makes it a valuable commodity. Merichem® can help match spent caustic chemicals to commercially appropriate end users. When beneficially reused without reclamation, spent caustics are exempt from solid-waste requirements and are categorized as a product (or valuable commodity) under U.S.A. EPA regulations.

Everyone Wins. So Does the Planet.

Beneficial reuse of spent caustic is a more environmentally friendly alternative to disposal. Our safe, responsible and cost effective approach helps our clients achieve waste minimization goals while eliminating labor intensive waste-handling protocols such as manifesting and record keeping. These spent caustics are then used as substitutes for other commercially available products or as feedstocks in other clients’ production processes.
