Welcome
For over 60 years, Merichem Company and its wholly owned subsidiary, Merichem Chemicals & Refinery Services LLC (MCRS) has provided a diversified portfolio of products and services to a wide range of operations including the refining and petrochemicals industry. With over 1000 licensed process units worldwide, MCRS is a leader in licensing patented process technologies and proprietary equipment to provide hydrocarbon treating solutions and by-product management services which remove sulfur and other impurities from hydrocarbon liquids and gases in the upstream and downstream energy sectors.
While it began as a domestic operator, today MCRS produces products and services to customers globally. Merichem’s core strengths are its technology base, know-how and experience in sulfur chemistry as applied to the design and supply of engineered mass transfer process systems to remove sulfur compounds, mercaptans and other impurities from both gas and liquid hydrocarbon streams. The Company is best known for its FiberFilm® Contactor technology (“FiberFilm®”) and LO-CAT® technology. FiberFilm® is applied in caustic-treating systems to remove impurities from hydrocarbon streams. Merichem’s LO-CAT® technology removes hydrogen sulfide to sweeten conventional and unconventional natural gas streams. Merichem also provides services and activities to achieve beneficial reuse of spent caustic by-products from refineries and petrochemical plants; manufactures catalysts used in hydrocarbon-treating processes; and produces naphthenic acid chemicals that are sold to a variety of industries.
Today Merichem is organized in three distinct operating groups:
- Process Technology Division (PTD) licenses its technologies to customers for whom it then designs, procures, and fabricates equipment to remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S), mercaptans, naphthenic acids, carbon dioxide (CO2), carbonyl sulfide (COS), and other impurities from light and middle distillate hydrocarbons in refineries, from gas liquids and condensates processed at natural gas production facilities and from light crude oils. Most equipment sold by PTD uses FiberFilm®.
- Gas Technology Products (GTP) division provides a full line of complementary hydrogen sulfide (H2S) removal systems for a wide range of operations. For some customers, GTP serves as the contractor to provide design, procurement, fabrication and installation of equipment. For others, it sells a license, engineering and equipment only. GTP also sells two families of catalysts, one used in its own systems and one used in PTD’s licensed processes.
- Merichem Chemicals Division (Chemicals) combines caustic-treating expertise and management to provide Beneficial-Reuse of spent caustic (an environmentally responsible caustic recycling solution) to the petroleum and petrochemical industries. Its services include analytical support, handling, transportation and terminaling for spent caustics products and other by-product streams at Chemicals’ plant in Alabama. Chemicals also produces the catalyst used in GTP and PTD technologies. Many of the spent caustics streams managed by Chemicals are produced in PTD licensed units.
