Environmental Responsiveness

Today, a clean environment is everyone’s goal. Refineries across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and South America depend on our use of their caustic co-products as feedstocks. Each year, Merichem consumes millions of pounds of these materials in our Houston, Texas, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA, plants in compliance with environmental standards.

Merichem’s facilities are in full compliance with all applicable federal and state environmental laws. Our engineers are active in many technical and community programs to create a cleaner, safer environment, through: Involvement in the Community Awareness and Emergency Response program, the Air Toxic Control program, and various activities related to product stewardship sponsored by the American Chemistry Council and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Our superior logistics system allows us to transport caustic solutions to our chemical plants and terminals in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner. Our adherence to the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care program ensures compliance to the highest industry standards and best practices.

Merichem’s manufacturing processes use spent caustic as a product and is considered a non-waste activity.

Merichem Caustic Services’ handling of spent caustic is exempt from the definition of solid waste and thus not a waste regulated by the Resource Conservation Recovery Act of 1976 as ammended (RCRA) because the spent caustics are feedstock for Merichem’s manufacturing plant and are also used as an effective substitute for other commercially available chemical products. These uses allow spent caustic handled by Merichem to be classified as a product, not a waste.

When you choose Merichem you get an environmentally-friendly company with advanced processes and highly trained personnel committed to making our technology products and services work for you.
