Happy Birthday MER 9
She had a blast on her birthday and a perfect gift to boot — a bright blue coat to keep her looking young and new.
The MER 9 is one of the uniquely designed barges in Merichem’s unmatched fleet of transportation vehicles moving spent caustics and other secondary materials to state-of-the-art storage and manufacturing facilities.
MER 9 turned 5 this summer, and after her successful internal structural examination by the U.S. Coast Guard, she hit dry dock for full maintenance — pump, engine, blast and paint. She’s back in the water and proudly serving our customers.
Keeping MER 9 and the rest of the fleet in top shape represents Merichem’s commitment to being good stewards; good for our customers, good for our environment and ultimately good for our business. Customers can rest easy knowing that their secondary materials are being transported safely and reliably. Spent caustics are feedstocks in Merichem’s manufacturing processes, or are used as effective substitutes for commercially available products.
When Merichem initiated its new barge construction program, MER 9, along with 4 other new barges, was specifically designed to higher industry standards to mitigate any risk of transporting our customers’ products. As the picture shows, the interiors of the cargo tanks still look brand new and the integrity of the construction ultimately translates to cost-effectiveness for our customers.
Happy sailing, MER 9! Know that you are one of the many innovative, integrated and environmentally responsible solutions that make Merichem a premier, global hydrocarbon-treatment partner, upstream and downstream.
