Finding the right caustic treating solution to remove impurities from hydrocarbon streams is a challenging task for any operator. Thanks to Merichem Company’s extensive experience and commitment to innovation, treating gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons can be efficient, economical and clean. Merichem Company brings 70 years of experience in the treatment and handling of spent caustic streams to the petroleum refining and petrochemical industries. Technical expertise allows us to recommend the right caustic treating process for your specific needs and handle most resulting caustic solutions in a non-waste, environmentally friendly manner utilizing a portfolio of caustic treating technologies as well as beneficial reuse channels.
The MERICON™ family of technologies processes spent caustics to control odor, reduce BOD (biological oxygen demand) and COD (chemical oxygen demand), adjust pH, and destroy phenolics and other hydrocarbons with an on-site solution.
MERICON II is a proprietary Wet Air Oxidation (WAO) technology that produces a neutral brine effluent stream for routing to waste-water treating facilities, evaporation ponds, or waterways.WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT THE MERICON II PROCESS?
Merichem’s MERICON II process enhances oxygen availability and thus performance at lower operating temperatures and pressures. This reduces capital and operating costs significantly compared to other systems. So while the MERICON II typical operating conditions range between 200C - 260C and 35 - 85kg/cm2 (low-medium severity), its performance can match that of units running at higher severity.WHAT FEEDSTOCK CAN BE TREATED WITH WAO?
- Spent sulfidic, phenolic, naphthenic and ethylene caustics
- Aqueous streams containing hazardous organic material (KOH)
- High BOD and COD wastewater
- Organic sludges requiring detoxification and/or pathogen kill
- Industrial liquor to economically recover metals
