Research Engineer or Senior Research Engineer: FTC09-0035
MCRS has an immediate need for a Research Engineer to provide project leadership and direct hands-on technical support for assigned research projects. This includes executing development project according to Merichem Stage-Gate Process. Provide platform leadership for Merichem process technologies. Develop work plans and experimental programs. Conduct literature and intellectual property searches. Oversee design, assembly and operation of laboratory equipment, ensure high quality data were obtained, interpret the results of experiments, and communicate them through formal reports. Function within established safety and chemical hygiene programs. Supervise laboratory technicians when assigned.
Experience Required:
- Proven experience of independently designing and executing experimental programs
- Proven experience of problem solving and functioning in cross-organizational teams
- Demonstrated creativity and innovativeness
- Experience with design of experimentation and statistical analysis
- Proven supervisory experience
Qualifications Required:
- PhD in Chemical Engineering
- A minimum of five years in oil refining and gas processing industrial research
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
Functional Requirements:
- Experimental programs including spending budget
- Project execution on schedule and on budget
- Technical recommendations
- Project technical memos
- Stage Gate technology assessment reports
- Conference reports
- Monthly project update reports
- General Requirements:
- Reside in Houston, TX
- Must be willing to work outside regular hours
- Travel as required, up to 20%,domestic or international
Competencies Required:
- Proven expertise with capturing, verifying and synthesizing data
- Strong problem solving skills and hands-on technical support experience
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Analytical thinking, self motivated, detail/accuracy oriented
- Strong desire to learn Merichem technologies
- Able to read, comprehend, maintain concentration and analyze complex data.

Competencies Desired:
- Strong knowledge of multiple phase reaction and catalysis
- Knowledge of sulfur chemistry and removal technologies
- Operational experience of oil refining and gas processing technologies
- General knowledge of chemical analytical techniques
- Ability to lead without direct authority
- Knowledge of intellectual property development strategy
