Business Development Manager – Chemicals Division
Merichem Chemicals & Refinery Services has an immediate need for a Business Development Manager who will support the attainment of the financial budget and forecasts for the Chemicals Division by meeting or exceeding all corporate and business goals related to the development and contracting of new products and services. In addition, this individual will maintain, manage and be accountable for all accounts and projects as assigned by the Director, Sales and Marketing.
Experience Required:
A minimum of 8 years sales and marketing experience including strategic account planning, selling to strengths, adding new products and services, and competitive analysis in the refining or petrochemical industries.
- Must have strong sales and negotiating skills.
- Good soft skills.
- Market awareness.
Qualifications Required:
- 4-year technical degree
- chemical engineering degree and/or MBA is preferred
Functional Requirements:
- Develop and contract new procurement opportunities for Chemicals under the business guidelines and practices as determined by the Director, Sales and Marketing or Vice-President/General Manager.
- Manage assigned accounts to exceed customer’s satisfaction while meeting the objectives of the business. Periodic visits to potential and existing customers to promote new services, improve customer relations, identify new business opportunities, and resolve complaints and gain knowledge about market drivers and competitive forces.
- Follow the sales process which includes but is not limited to, qualifying customers through our Responsible Care Management program, preparing proposals, developing contracts, negotiating, and reviewing and administering contract terms and conditions for those assigned accounts. Contract administration includes, but is not limited to, resolving customer complaints or discrepancies regarding transportation, quality, invoicing, and collections. Develop pricing strategies for existing and new accounts to improve margins.
- Keep management teams and business teams informed of the current business opportunities and direction
- Provide timely management reports such as account summaries, forecasting, pricing recommendations, etc.
General Requirements:
- Position reports to the Director of Sales & Marketing
- Location is OST Houston
- Able to maintain focus on spreadsheets and analyze data.
- Travel required is estimated at 30–40%; mostly international.
- Able use hands to grasp objects
- Able to lift up to twenty pounds and exert force
- Physically able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, crawl or kneel for extended periods of time.
- Able to speak & communicate proficiently
- Travel stresses possible during long trips by a combination of air and car travel are sometimes required. Overseas travel with accompanying jet lag
- Able to work in an office environment on a computer for extended periods of time.
- Respond to client emails, phone calls other contact requests on a timely basis
- Client visits could result in exposure to chemical processes and equipment and possible exposure to dust, dirt, grease and occasional extreme heat and cold weather when on site at refineries as part of the sales process.
